The model does not need any training.</Paragraph> <Paragraph position="1"> This is useful because training corpora marked with intonational phrases are sparse, especially as far as languages other than English are concerned. We show that the model is adaptable to other languages.</Paragraph> <Paragraph position="2"> Its performance is comparable to other phrase break models, and there is still some leeway for improvement. We tested how far a heuristic which is part of the model is capable of capturing changes in speech rate and gained promising results.
