<Paragraph position="0"> A user-tailored open domain QA system is outlined where a user model contributes to elaborating answers corresponding to the user's needs and presenting them efficiently. In this paper we have focused on how the user's reading level (a parameter in the UM) can be used to filter and re-order the candidate answer passages. Our preliminary results show a positive feedback from human assessors on the utility of the system in an information seeking domain. Our short term goals involve performing a more extensive evaluation, exploiting more UM parameters in answer selection and implementing a dialogue interface to improve the system's interactivity.</Paragraph>
