    <Paragraph position="0"> The project results so far suggest that developing a natural language front end tc databases based cn a general semantic anal yser which constructs rich and explicit meaning representations offers distinct advantages in at least two respects: it makes all subsequent prccessing cleaner than would be the case with a representation dominated by ccnventicnal syntax, and enhances portability by encouraging the declarative description cf domain-specific ~ncwledge.</Paragraph>
