It conceives communication among and within different kuowledgc sources (grammar, domain and discourse km)wlcdge) as the backbone for complex language understanding tasks. The main specification elements of the grammar m(xlel consist of categorial, roof  phosyntactic, conceptual, and ordering constraints in terms of valency specificatious attached to single lexical items. The associated concurrent computation m~xlel is based on the actor paradigm of objcct-orieuted programmiug. The l'arseTalk model has been experimentally validated by a prototype system, a parser for German (for its implemenlational statns, cf. Schacht, Ilalm &amp; Brt~ker, 1994).</Paragraph>
